Salesian Cooperators of St Philip the Apostle Province at Eastern United States, Eastern United States 00000 - Who We are and What We Do...

Who We are and What We Do...

The Salesian Society of Apostolic Life, known as the Salesian Cooperators, was founded in Italy by Saint John Bosco in 1876. Our founder imbued in us the spirit of our patron, Saint Francis de Sales, which is a spirit of optimism, joy, service, and belief in the goodness of God and of each person. We are a lay association which is the secular or 'in the world’ branch of the Salesian  Family, which is dedicated to the service of the young and the poor.

With over 35,000 members worldwide in nearly every country, we can be found in almost any workplace, social arena, or age-group. We are Salesians who are specifically called to sanctify our own communities, beginning with our own families and local church. We are catechists, lay ministers, youth ministers, teachers, parents, lawyers. We are everyday people who are serious about our faith, and who strive to preach more by our example than by our words.

Don Bosco once said that being a Salesian Cooperator would one day become synonymous with being a good Christian. In our own way we strive to live his example of loving service to God through our brothers and sisters in need. Our work is as varied as our talents, but is always directed toward helping the young or the disadvantaged.
